Sanders’
Draughtsmanship
Over
a period of about three years Sanders was drawing intensively at
the London Zoo. His love of the animals he saw was reflected in
the stark and realistic way he drew both their anatomy and the emotional
relationship between the individual species and man. The urge towards
the truth was far too strong to allow for anything anthropomorfic
or sentimental in his approach. He drew mainly with charcoal on
paper: using these media he produced many masterly drawings of animals
and people. His work has been hidden for many years and now through
this exhibition it is coming out into the light.
